چکیده
The fi rst publication that identifi ed injury and surgery as major risk factors for chronic pain appeared in 1998.1 This paper reported that around 40% of 5130 chronic pain patients in 10 pain clinics in the United Kingdom had developed their chronic pain problem after surgery or trauma. This fi nding has led to a dramatic increase in interest in this subject; searches on PubMed for key words such as chronic or persistent postsurgical pain now reveal hundreds of publications on this topic. While most of these papers analyze pain after surgery,2,3 the original publication also suggested trauma as another major precursor of chronic pain.1 This suggestion has been confi rmed by subsequent studies4; in principle, every chronic pain has been acute pain at some stage.5 The problem is not limited to major surgery or major trauma, as even minor operations such as herniotomy can have signifi cant consequences with regard to development of chronic pain; a recent editorial on this topic states that “chronic pain is the most common and serious long-term problem after repair of an inguinal hernia.”6 The consequences of chronic postsurgical or post-traumatic pain are signifi cant, not only in terms of suffering and reduced quality of life for the individual patient but also with regard to the subsequent costs to the health care and social support systems of our societies.4,7

Effects of co-administration of chronic curcumin and forced exercise on behavioral pain responses in the neuropathic pain model of chronic constriction injury in rats
Introduction: Neuropathic pain is a chronic pain that results from damage to the central and peripheral nerves. According to the previous studies, curcumin and exercise can be effective treatments for alleviating sensory neuropathic pain individually. Now the combined effect of chronic curcumin (Cur) and forced exercise on behavioral pain responses in the neuropathic pain model of chronic const...

Introduction: Neuropathic pain is a chronic pain that results from damage to the central and peripheral nerves. According to the previous studies, physical activity or progesterone can be an effective treatment for alleviating sensory neuropathic pain individually. In this way, the combined effect of chronic progesterone and forced exercise on behavioral pain responses in the neuropathic pain m...
متن کاملCombined effect of chronic progesterone administration with compulsive exercise on prevention of TNF-α production and abnormal electrophysiological responses of sciatic nerve in Chronic Constriction injury pain model in rat
Introduction: Neuropathic pain has no definitive treatment and the socio-economic status and personality of patient is severely affected. Since the exercise and/or progesterone effect on Chronic Constriction injury (CCI) neuropathic pain has been studied and each individually have been able to improve neuropathic pain and as a part of its etiology is related to TNF-α production, we tried to tes...
متن کاملParoxetine Attenuates the Development and Existing Pain in a Rat Model of Neurophatic Pain
Background: P2X4 receptor (P2X4R), a purinoceptor expressed in activated spinal microglia, plays a key role in the pathogenesis of neuropathic pain. Spinal nerve injury induces up-regulation of P2X4R on activated microglia in the spinal cord, and blockade of this receptor can reduce neuropathic pain. The present study was undertaken to determine whether paroxetine, an inhibitor of P2X4R, could ...
متن کاملEffect of Paroxetine on the Neuropathic Pain: A Molecular Study
Background: Neuropathic pain due to damage to the peripheral nerve has influenced millions of people living all over the world. It has been shown that paroxetine can relieve neuropathic pain. Recently, the role of some proteins like BDNF, GABAA receptor, and KCC2 transporter in the occurrence of neuropathic pain has been documented. In the current study, the expression of these proteins affecte...
